Abstract

1001 first year students at the University of Khartoum were tested with the Standard Progressive Matrices (SPM) in 2008. The mean score was 44.2. This is equivalent to the 10th percentile of the British standardization sample of 1992. There were considerable differences in the IQs of the Khartoum students in different departments. Engineering and medical students obtained the highest IQs, and primary education students the lowest.
