Abstract

The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-III) is one of the most extensively used diagnostic tools in special education and in gifted identification in particular. The present study uses a unique data set of 1664 nominees for gifted schools in Khartoum (46% male, 54% female) to extract local norms for some of the WISC-III subtests. The study derived statistical indices of performance for most subtests of WISC-III, and scaled scores of verbal and performance subscales. Verbal, performance and total IQ were also extracted. Implications and recommendations based on the findings are offered.
