Abstract

The author examines the life and writings of a renowned geneticist of far-left ideological persuasions who warned that modern societies had severely reduced the biologically cleansing effect of natural selection. Seeking to revolutionize society both economically and biologically, Muller recognized the existence of substantial racial differences in man, although his egalitarian ideology induced him to trust in the power of culture to mask the full impact of such differences.
